Ex-bourbon oak: a second chapter

A clue from the previous fill

Ex-bourbon describes a cask previously used to mature bourbon. Our blog explores how that oak can begin another maturation journey. Vanilla, caramel and coconut are useful tasting associations, not promises that every cask will deliver the same result.

Casks from the official Broody Hen archive

Archive photography does not verify an individual cask’s history or availability.

Read the record, not only the name

For a project conversation, prepare three things:

  • A cask reference and the available history.
  • Recent condition photographs and inspection dates.
  • Sample notes separated from documented facts.

A new spirit, a new question

Start with the character you want to explore, then review the actual sample and terms. Our Korean-aging project introduces that conversation. This editorial checklist is preparation guidance, not a guarantee of maturation results.
