Begin with the result you want
A useful brief explains the intended project before naming a preferred cask. Are you exploring a new expression, a private bottling or the next use of an empty cask?
You do not need every answer at the outset. Separate fixed requirements from questions that remain open.

Reference photography, not an offer for a specific cask.
Four boxes for the first page
- Purpose: the product or experience you want to develop.
- References: available spirit details, existing products or flavour references.
- Scale: the quantity or bottling size you would like to explore.
- Timing: review milestones and genuinely fixed dates.
Then discuss supply conditions, sample availability, transport and storage. Compare what a proposal includes as well as its headline figure.

Record when and how a sample was assessed.
Start with information you can share
There is no need to put confidential cost sheets or contracts into an initial web enquiry. Agree the necessary documents and a suitable sharing method with your contact first.
